Remembering Lloyd Robertson

Lloyd Robertson was a true son of Stratford and Perth County. No matter where he went, he never forgot his roots. 

I am fortunate to have known Lloyd over the past number of years. It was wonderful seeing him at community events gladly giving back to the place that gave him his start.

I will miss his phone calls when we would discuss the latest political events in Ottawa and he always wanted to catch up on what was happening in “our Stratford”.  As a kid who would stay up late to catch the evening news, it was always special to answer the phone and hear his familiar voice on the other end. 

I remember in spring 2020 when the world was in a panic, he agreed to do an online story time with me for children to watch while schools and libraries were closed. He selected a book titled “I am Peace”. As he read that book in his famous reassuring voice, he reminded us that no matter what happens, we can get through it together. Just as he had done on the news for many years, he was able to express the seriousness of the situation in a calm and comforting manner.

I wish his wife Nancy and their daughters my deepest sympathies and our collective thanks for sharing Lloyd with us every evening as he brought us the news.

There will never be another news anchor like Lloyd. As he titled his memoirs: And that’s “the kind of life it’s been.”
