O’Toole Names Nater to Shadow Cabinet

Ottawa, ON — Earlier today, the Honourable Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives appointed the Official Opposition’s Shadow Cabinet. Perth—Wellington Member of Parliament, John Nater will serve as Shadow Minister for Rural Economic Development.

“I am honoured to join the Shadow Cabinet under Erin O’Toole’s leadership,” said Nater. He added “Erin understands the concerns of Canadians living in communities like those in Perth Wellington and I am excited to serve with him as we present a modern Conservative Party to all Canadians.”

Among Nater’s top priorities in his new portfolio is rural broadband. “Since I was first elected in 2015, I have consistently raised the issue of rural broadband in the House of Commons and directly with the current Liberal Government. Now, with COVID-19, reliable high-speed internet is absolutely essential for business, education, healthcare, and keeping families connected” said M.P. Nater. “I look forward to working with organizations, elected officials, and independent internet service providers who are already leading the way in connecting Canadians and I am proud many of them are right here in Perth—Wellington.”

The Second Session of the 43rd Parliament is set to begin on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 with the Speech from the Throne.
