M.P. Nater Congratulates North Perth on their funding for Wastewater Treatment Plant
For Immediate Release
Stratford, ON – John Nater, M.P. for Perth–Wellington was pleased to announce today that the Municipality of North Perth will be receiving $1,628,078 in federal funding for the Disaster Mitigation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This funding will be matched by the Government of Ontario.
He continued by stating that: “I hope the federal government will continue this trend and announce the specifics of the Clean Water and Waste Water Management Fund soon. I know many communities in Perth–Wellington are eager to submit shovel ready-projects for this program.”
While Nater was pleased with the funding for North Perth, we as disappointed to hear many municipalities in the riding did not receive funding despite having submitted strong applications. This is often due to provincial requirements that fail to take into account the unique needs of rural Ontario.
The $1,628,078 in federal funding comes from the Small Communities Fund, which was created in 2014 under the larger New Building Canada Fund. In the past two years, a total of $1 Billion has been allocated for projects in municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residnets.
